SOUTHERN INDIA UNVEILED
INDIA
18 OCTOBER - 1 NOVEMBER
THE JOURNEY
Southern India Unveiled begins in Mumbai, a city that doesn’t exactly believe in easing you in gently. We’ll discover it through its food, fashion, markets and neighbourhoods — from an extraordinary pre-dawn look at the city coming to life to spice markets, street food and the women transforming pre-loved saris into contemporary fashion. And because this is Her Tribe Travels, there’s also a private Bollywood-inspired sunset sail on Mumbai Harbour, with wine, music and the city skyline behind us.
From Mumbai we travel south to Kerala and the historic port city of Kochi. Here, the story is one of cultures and traditions layered over centuries. We’ll meet dancers, artists and the women challenging convention within the traditionally male world of Kathakali, while experiencing Kochi’s diverse culinary heritage inside local homes. Then we leave the coast behind and head into the hills of Munnar, where tea plantations roll across the landscape and the pace begins to change.
From the tea country we descend towards Kumarakom and Kerala’s backwaters. There’ll be morning yoga, time with the women of Philipkutty’s Farm and a traditional houseboat journey through the waterways, passing villages and glimpses of everyday life along the canals. This is a quieter side of India, and we’ve deliberately allowed the itinerary to slow with it.
Our final stop is Mararikulam on the Arabian Sea. We’ll explore village life along the coast, visit the local harbour, share breakfast with a family and travel through the village by tuk-tuk, but there’s also plenty of time left gloriously unaccounted for. Swim, read, investigate Ayurveda or claim a spot by the sea and do very little at all. After the colour, energy and constant discovery of the previous two weeks, it feels like exactly the right place to finish.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS JOURNEY
THE ICONS
From Mumbai’s extraordinary energy and landmark architecture to the historic streets of Fort Kochi, the tea-covered hills of Munnar and Kerala’s famous backwaters, this journey takes in some of Southern India’s most memorable landscapes and places. We finish on the Arabian Sea at Marari, where the pace slows and the beach takes over.
THE EXPERIENCES
See Mumbai before dawn as its docks and markets come to life, make vada pav, explore a spice market and create your own spice-inspired cocktail. Meet artists and performers in Kochi, walk through Munnar’s tea plantations, share home-cooked food with local families and spend a night aboard a traditional houseboat on Kerala’s backwaters. There’s yoga, Ayurveda, village life, tuk-tuks, a fish auction and plenty of time to enjoy the coast.
